Three Finalists Announced for Vice President for Student Success

St. Philip’s College announced Devin Stroman, Wesley Wells and Christina Cortez as finalists for the next Vice President for Student Success. Candidates will participate in open forums on both campuses – face-to-face and virtual.

Devin Stroman

Forum:

Devin Stroman currently serves as Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell. He is a motivated and energetic professional with over ten years of experience in student affairs and enrollment management. He is passionate about student development with a focus on creating lasting results for students and the institution. As a strength-based leader, Devin enjoys guiding teams and fostering collaboration by bringing positivity into the work environment.

Devin was born and raised in Silver City, New Mexico. He has a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Western New Mexico University and is currently working towards his doctorate in Educational Leadership at Liberty University. Devin is married with two children. He enjoys tennis, reading and serving in community leadership associations.

Wesley Wells

Forum:

Wesley Wells is currently director of the Center for Workforce and Community Education at Lee College in Baytown, Texas.

He serves as president of the Lee College Administrative Assembly, co-liaison of the Black Educational Access and Completion Committee, and a member of both the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Community of Practice, and the Lee Cares Basic Needs and Grief Support Team.

Wells has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Sciences with a specialization in Public Policy and Administration from the University of Houston-Downtown and a Masters of Education Degree in Higher Education Administration from Abilene Christian University. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education Degree in Organizational Leadership at ACU.

He is skilled in strategic planning, promoting workplace and classroom excellence, and successfully steering organizations forward on the path to success, while removing barriers to student success. He is a champion for minority, LGBTQ, and underrepresented communities. He is driven by a belief in the power of education to make the world a better place.

Christina Cortez

Forum:

Christina Cortez’s higher education experience spans over 15 years. She currently serves as Dean for Student Success at St. Philip’s College, assisting students through the enrollment process and to graduation. She served as foster care liaison in her role of director of advising, assisting students through the various obstacles of obtaining a college education after being a ward of the State of Texas.

Christina was born in Corpus Christi.  Christina attended various high schools as she lived in foster care.  She graduated high school with the help of amazing foster parents and a wonderful caseworker.

She is a graduate of Texas A&M University -- Corpus Christi with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Community Counseling. She is currently working on a doctorate degree at Lamar University.

She is actively involved in extracurricular activities with her children and church. She has been married for 22 years and has three children.
